What do their objects say about a person? Auction catalogues can reveal a lot about people. One only needs to think of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis or Truman Capote, for example.

In the original homonymous book by Leanne Shapton, written in the form of a catalogue, 325 lots are what remain for posterity of the relationship between Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, objects which the couple collected over the course of four years and which are ready to be auctioned. The reader is tasked with recreating the story which is subtly developed over the course of the pages, through the images and respective captions.

This exhibition is therefore rooted in the work of Leanne Shapton, a Canadian artist, illustrator and writer, and the book launch in Portugal by Bertrand Editora.

Some of the objects which narrate the history of the relationship between Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris were displayed at the Cascais Cultural Centre, affording readers the opportunity to become “physically” involved in the plot of the novel-catalogue and in the lives of the protagonists.
