Shared Destiny Science, the Mayas and the End of the World

Presented by The Maya Project, this exhibition focused on how the Mayas of Latin America live today, showcasing their culture. After Loughborough University (United Kingdom), the ISCTE exhibition hall in Lisbon hosted about 27 photographs and objects exemplifying the Maya lifestyle today.

A prophecy predicting that the world would end in 2012, erroneously interpreted from an ancient Maya calendar, aroused great public interest about the descendants of this ancient civilization. Thus, as the designated date drew closer, a set of researchers from Loughborough University offered the general public an opportunity to become better acquainted with this vast indigenous group which still inhabits Latin America.
