Frida Kahlo Her Photos

Following the well succeeded presentation in Lisbon and seven years travelling the world,  the Frida Kahlo – Her Photos exhibition was presented for a second time in Portugal, this time in Porto, at the CPF – Portuguese Centre for Photography, opening the 5 July 2018 and receiving more than 67.000 visitors in four months.

The display, thematically divided into six sections – The Origins; The Blue House; Politics, Revolutions and Diego; Her Broken Body; Frida’s Loves; and Photography – includes a documentary on Frida’s life.

The 241 photographs in this exhibition, selected by its curator Pablo Ortiz Monasterio from an estate with more than 6.500 images, were safeguarded thanks to Frida Kahlo’s love for the art of photography and reflect her intimacy and the interests she developed throughout her life.

From an early age Frida Kahlo had a special relationship with the medium of photography, given that her grandfather and her father Guillermo Kahlo were professional photographers. Whether in front of or behind the camera, Frida knew how to create a strong personality. One can see a surprising knowledge of her best angles and poses in the portraits taken by her father. Her face-on gaze staring at the lens is the image that will be reflected in her paintings and in the photographs taken of her by great photographers of the xx century.
