Opening on 23 April at the Castro Verde Municipal Forum, the exhibition Eyes of Memory: Portugal 1975 – 1980, a set of 80 photographs by Portuguese photographer Armindo Cardoso, leads us through the turbulent post-25 April 1974 period of Portuguese history.

This exhibition is part of the Primavera no Campo Branco Cultural Programme and the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the 25th of April revolution. It is open to the public until 23 May, from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 3pm to 6pm on Saturdays at the Castro Verde Municipal Forum.

Armindo Cardoso has documented decisive moments in world history, including the social and political upheavals in Chile before and after the attack on Salvador Allende on 11 September 1973. In Chile, he also photographed the indigenous Mapuche people of the country’s south-central region, portraying their habits and customs, in a work of great anthropological interest. In Portugal, after his escape from Chile in 1973, he extensively documented the country after the April Revolution.
