Frida Kahlo – Her Photos exhibition displayed in Albuquerque in the United States

The Frida Kahlo – Her Photos exhibition continues its tour in the United States, where it has reached the University of New Mexico Art Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the 5 August and will be on display until 2 December 2017. The exhibition, which includes 241 photos from the Mexican artist’s private archive, was previously on show at the Bowers Museum in California, where it was visited by 23,000 people.

It only became evident that the origin of many of her most charismatic works lay in photographic composition when Frida Kahlo’s photo archive was found. Her self-portraits, for example, were strongly inspired by the self-portraits which the painter’s father took of himself, as Hilda Trujillo, director of the Frida Kahlo Museum (in Mexico City) explains in a text featured in the Frida Kahlo – Her Photos catalogue, an idea that is also shared by Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, the exhibition’s curator, in an interview with PBS (Public Broadcasting Service).
