Frida Kahlo – Her Photos on display at the Bendigo Art Gallery, Australia

Until 10 February, 2019 the Australian public will have the chance to visit the exhibition Frida Kahlo – Her Photos, at the Bendigo Art Gallery, Victoria.

Selected among the more than 6,000 photographs that comprise the photographic collection found in the emblematic Casa Azul in Mexico City, the 241 works exhibited are an extraordinary sample of the interests and passions that moved Frida Kahlo (1907 – 1954), one of the most important Latin American painters.

Organized in 6 specific themes, the exhibition reveals photography as a fundamental instrument to Kahlo’s artistic expression and object of her deep appreciation and affection. Throughout her brief life, Frida Kahlo has carefully gathered photographs that are now displayed to the public, portraying her family, her fascination with Diego Rivera and other loves, her fragile health, her political and artistic concerns, and her love for Mexico and its traditions.

Frida Kahlo’s collection, which is both a family album and a historical document, also includes photos from famous photographers such as Man Ray, Martin Munkácsi, Edward Weston, Tina Modotti, Pierre Verger, and Lola and Manuel Álvarez Bravo.
