The work of celebrated Cuban photographer Alberto Korda (1928 – 2001) was seen by the 8.000 visitors of the La Térmica cultural centre in Málaga, where the retrospective exhibition Korda: Beauty and Revolution was held between 26 October, 2018 and 10 January, 2019.

The artist behind “Heroic Guerrilla”, the iconic portrait of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, considered the most reproduced photograph in history, Korda is known worldwide as the photographer of the Cuban Revolution, author of true witnessing images of one of the most important events in history in the twentieth century.

Korda: Beauty and Revolution, the result of an elaborate research work in the personal archives of Alberto Korda and on the 50,000 negatives kept by the Historical Archive of Cuba’s State Council, besides presenting Korda as a photojournalist, celebrates the artistic quality and versatility of his photography, his unique perspective and his deep aesthetic sense.

The body of work of Alberto Korda is varied and complex, as was evident in the exhibition that gathers photographs from the period in which the photographer dedicated his craft to advertising and fashion photography in pre-Revolution Havana, revealing an artist devoted to the representation of feminine beauty, always using natural lighting and elaborate compositions. The visitors were also able to get acquainted with the work Korda developed as a marine photographer.
