Between Words and Silences Works from the Norlinda and José Lima Collection

Curated by Luísa Soares de Oliveira, essayist and art critic, the exhibition Between Words and Silences – Works from the Norlinda and José Lima Collection, presented at the Cascais Cultural Centre in an initiative of the D. Luís I Foundation and the City Council of Cascais within the scope of the Museum Quarter programming, brings together 104 works from the Norlinda and José Lima Collection, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and installations, carried out by some of the most important contemporary Portuguese and foreign artists.

Paula Rego, Andy Warhol, Julião Sarmento, Rui Chafes, Cindy Sherman, Júlio Pomar, Damien Hirst and Victor Vasarely are just some of the authors of the works in display, many of them never before shown in Cascais or Lisbon.

José Lima, a Portuguese businessman in the footwear industry, created the Norlinda and José Lima Collection, currently under the guardianship of the Oliva Art Centre in São João da Madeira, over 40 years ago. Focused on contemporary art, it is considered one of the most significant and comprehensive private art collections in the country, comprising approximately 1300 works by around 480 artists from all over the world.
