Made in Hollywood Photographs from the John Kobal Foundation

Marlon Brando, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Buster Keaton and Humphrey Bogart, among others, were some of the stars present at the Made in Hollywood – Photographs from the John Kobal Foundation exhibition, displayed at the Cascais Cultural Centre.

After the USA and England (where it was presented at the National Portrait Gallery, in London), this exhibition of 93 original photographs by the most important photographers from Hollywood studios, between 1920 and 1960, was also presented in Portugal.

Made in Hollywood showcased the names and careers of the unknown circle of studio photographers who were, after all, the authors of images which were essential for Hollywood and were as important as any filmmaker while creating that glamorous universe.

These photographs were essential marketing and promotion tools, forming what is today recognized as the “studio style” of Hollywood. Such images produced an aura which transformed Hollywood into a place where dreams came true.

This was the most successful exhibition to date produced by TE, with 54.000 visitors.

The Portuguese Cinema Museum organised a film festival to commemorate the event, in partnership with the D. Luís I Foundation.

The President of the John Kobal Foundation, Simon Crocker, was also present in Portugal, for a guided tour of the exhibition.
