About the photography:

A Tesoura (The Scissors), one of the most emblematic portraits of the Portuguese singer and composer António Variações (1944 – 1984), photographed in 1981 at his home by Teresa Couto Pinto during the photo shoot for the cover of his single É pr’amanhã.

The symbol of the scissors on the artist’s face became part of the logo used by Emi/Valentim de Carvalho music publishers on all of their albums. The scissors, Variações’s work tool as a hairdresser, form  the initials of his name when opened.

Teresa Couto Pinto (Malange, Angola, 1955) was the agent, photographer and, above all, a friend of António Variações. In 2020 she published the cult photobook António Variações, which brings together rare and never-before-seen photographs of the man who would become one of the greatest icons of pop culture and music in Portugal.

Fine art giclee printing is the practice of printing on museum-quality, archival mediums with archival pigment inks on high-resolution digital inkjet printers. This combination of high-quality materials, inks, and printers provide an unmatched range of color, depth, and detail. Fine art prints or fine art giclee (pronounced “jee-clay”) are industry-standard in the art world for art reproduction and photography due to their superior quality.
