Days of Punk Photographs by Micheal Grecco

On view at the Centro Cultural de Cascais, the DAYS OF PUNK exhibition presents for the first time in Portugal the work of North American photographer Michael Grecco. DAYS OF PUNK is organized by Michael Grecco in collaboration with Terra Esplêndida, also responsible for the exhibition’s international tour.

The more than 100 photographs featured in DAYS OF PUNK date from the late 70s to the early 90s, when Michael Grecco witnessed the explosion of the punk, post-punk and new wave scenes at concerts and nightclubs in Boston and New York. In the midst of events, on stage and behind the scenes, the photographer had the unique opportunity to document a frenetic moment in the history of music, translating into images the rebellion, raw energy, emotional power and outrageous irreverence that characterized the punk, post-punk and new wave movements in the United States at the time.

The exhibition also includes soundscapes specially created for DAYS OF PUNK in collaboration with Roger Miller and Peter Prescott from cult band Mission of Burma. The video component of the exhibition includes archive images captured by Grecco himself and the testimony of some of the characters who, at the time the photos were taken, were also participating in the North American punk scene. Additionally, objects from Michael Grecco’s personal collection will be on display, including copies of Boston Rock magazine and original posters created by artist Dini Lamot a former member of the band Human Sexual Response.
