A new Pierre Verger exhibition opens in Europe
The Museum Cobra in Amstelveen, the Netherlands is now presenting Pierre Fatumbi Verger – The One That I am Not, the first major Pierre Verger exhibition in Europe in almost 20 years.
Curated by Alex Baradel, responsible for the photographic collection of the Pierre Verger Foundation, and produced by Terra Esplêndida, the new retrospective Pierre Verger – The One That I Am Not presents over 150 photographs and is a celebration of Verger’s photographic legacy, the dignity and respect with which he photographed other people and cultures, his spirit and journey to self-discovery.
On May 30, 2024, the Museum Cobra welcomed the public for the opening of two new exhibitions, Pierre Fatumbi Verger – The One That I am Not and Diana Blok – I Challenge You to Love Me. The Museum team was joined by special guests including the Mayor of Amstelveen, Mr. Tjapko Poppens; the Brazilian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr. Fernando Simas Magalhães accompanied by a delegation from the Embassy; the Turkish Ambassador to the Netherlands Mr. Selçuk Ünal, and the President of the Pierre Verger Foundation, Mr. Gilberto Sá.
The exhibition with photographs by Pierre Verger can be seen in the Netherlands until October 9th, 2024.
