El Paso Museum of Art Reopens with Frida Kahlo – Sus Fotos

The exhibition Frida Kahlo – Sus Fotos was on view at the El Paso Museum of Art from February 14 to May 17, 2026, attracting 32,500 visitors. The show presented 241 photographs offering an intimate and documentary perspective on the life, relationships, and cultural context of the Mexican artist.

Organized from the painter’s personal archive, discovered decades after her death, the exhibition was curated by Mexican photography historian Pablo Ortiz Monasterio. The photographs were arranged into six thematic sections exploring Frida’s origins, the Casa Azul, her relationship with Diego Rivera, her struggle with chronic health issues, her emotional and romantic bonds, and the role photography played in her life and work.

Beyond its artistic significance, the exhibition was part of the celebrations marking the reopening of the El Paso Museum of Art following a period of renovations and improvements, underscoring the institution’s commitment to cultural outreach and to providing the community with access to art of global relevance.
