Budapest welcomes Frida Kahlo – Her Photos
Until January 12, 2025, the Mai Manó House – The Hungarian House of Photography in Budapest is hosting the exhibition Frida Kahlo – Her Photos. This is the first time that these photographs, part of Frida Kahlo’s personal collection, are presented to the Hungarian public.
On the occasion of the opening reception, which took place on October 18, Perla Labarthe, Director of the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City, gave a special lecture on the life, work and legacy of Frida Kahlo based on the photographs on display.
The Mai Manó House – The Hungarian House of Photography is located in central Budapest in a studio-house built at the end of 19th century, for the commission of Mai Manó (1855-1917), Imperial and Royal Court Photographer and is a landmark in the cultural life of the city. It is worth mentioning that the exhibition Frida Kahlo – Her Photos includes works by Hungarian photographers Martín Munkácsi (1896-1963), Brassaï (born Gyula Halász, 1899-1984) and Nickolas Muray (born Miklos Mandl, 1892-1965), essential names in 20th century photography.
Frida Kahlo – Her Photos is an exhibition by the Frida Kahlo Museum – Casa Azul/Diego Rivera Museum; and Bank of Mexico, Fiduciary in the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museum Trust. The exhibition’s worldwide tour is managed by Terra Esplêndida.
