Exhibition Vivian Maier – Antologia Opens at CPF

On 27 March, “Vivian Maier – Antologia” opened its doors at the Centro Português de Fotografia, in Porto. The exhibition is promoted by Terra Esplêndida in partnership with CPF and will run until 30 August 2026, every day from 10am to 7pm.

The opening was attended by the exhibition’s curator, Anne Morin; the Councillor for Culture of Porto City Council, Jorge Sobrado; the Director of Terra Esplêndida, Rui Pereira; the Director of CPF, Bernardino Castro; the President of the Serralves Foundation, Manuel Ferreira da Silva; the Vice-President of the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Rui Costa; and representatives and guests of the entities supporting the exhibition.

In the year marking the centenary of Vivian Maier’s birth (1926–2009), the exhibition brings together more than 140 images by one of the most extraordinary photographers of the twentieth century. A nanny by profession, Maier spent decades building a vast archive of more than 120,000 negatives, prints, films and recordings — a body of work that remained unknown until it was discovered by chance in 2007, and which established her as one of the most singular voices in photography. Organised in seven sections, the exhibition explores different themes and dimensions of her work, from urban portraiture to self-portraits, in black and white and colour, revealing how her vision evolved over the years.
