Norman Parkinson: Always in Style for the first time in North America

In a North America premiere, the McCord Stewart Museum in Montreal, Canada, is now hosting the exhibition Norman Parkinson: Always in Style.

Guests and the press were welcomed on April 19th, 2024, for the opening event. Present on the occasion, the exhibition’s curator Terence Pepper OBE gave a talk about Parkinson’s work and influence. “I hope that the audience will appreciate the opportunity to witness the significant moments in the career of a photographer who not only played a crucial role in the development of fashion photography in the 20th century but also excelled as a portrait artist. Throughout his prolific 60-year career, spanning from 1931 until his passing in 1990, while still in action, he demonstrated a remarkable ability to capture and reflect the essence of the era in which he worked, says Mr. Pepper OBE.

On view until September 2nd, 2024, Norman Parkinson: Always in Style is a unique chance to discover one of the pillars of 20th-century fashion photography. The exhibition is composed of 79 photographs, including rarely shown images sourced from the photographer’s extensive archive , along with 56 magazine covers, memorabilia, and 10 pieces from the McCord Stewart Museum’s collection of Dress, Fashion and Textiles.
