A ONU em Imagens 70 anos de História

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, the UN Department of Public Information and the Gabarron Foundation co-organised an exhibition that explores its vast iconographic archive. Originally named UNEARTH in English, the exhibition arrived in Portugal with the title The UN in pictures – 70 years of history.

Curators Chaim Litewski, António Silva, Mark Garten and Ziad Al-Kadri aimed to show, reflect and comment on the UN’s journey in a world that has changed dramatically over 70 years and to highlight some of the most important aspects of the UN’s main activities (such as the Protection of Human Rights, Development, Humanitarian Assistance and Peace and Security) through an exhibition of photographs and posters designed by creatives from the Division of Promotion and Graphic Design and by legendary artists such as Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Keith Haring and others.

After opening in New York (USA), the exhibition moved to The Hague (the Netherlands), Verdun (France) and had its fourth stage in Lisbon (Portugal), a tour that will continue through various art centres and galleries around the world.

The opening in Lisbon was attended by the former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Prof. Freitas do Amaral; the President of the Gabarron Foundation, Cris Gabarron; and the Councillor for International Relations, Carlos de Castro, representing the Lisbon City Council.
