The exceptional work of the photographer Vivian Maier (1926-2009) was presented between January 16 and May 16, 2021, by Fundação D. Luís I at the Centro Cultural de Cascais, in an unprecedented exhibition in Portugal.
The exhibition brought together 135 impressive photographs made between 1953 and 1984, in black and white and in color, about life in the streets of American cities and a selection of the artist’s peculiar self-portraits, as well as nine works in Super 8 video.
In addition to the curious history of the eccentric, intellectual and reserved Vivian Maier, this exhibition demonstrates the remarkable quality of her artistic work as a photographer today positioned in a prominent place among the best “street photographers” of the 20th century.
