After exhibitions in Spain and France, and in the context of the centenary of the birth of the Hungarian photographer Nicolás Muller, the exhibition Nicolás Muller. Masterworks arrives in Cascais under the auspices of the D. Luís I Foundation, part of the MOSTRA ESPANHA 2015 programme, organized in Portugal by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain and by the PhotoEspanha festival.
Curated by Chema Conesa and produced by the Community of Madrid, the exhibition includes some 70 black and white photographs that are part of the collection kept by the artist’s daughter, Ana Muller – now owned by the Regional Archives of the Community of Madrid – chronologically organized from 1935 to 1981. This retrospective of Muller‘s life and work reflects each stage of his forced escape from the threat posed to all Jews in Europe by Nazism: from his first works in Hungary, in which he denounces the feudal situation of peasants, to the portfolios made in France, Portugal and Morocco, and his reports, books and portraits made in Spain, where he lived and died.
