The return of Frida Kahlo – Her Photos to museums

After successive postponements, forced by the imperative need to adapt museum’s programs to the new reality caused by the progression of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world tour of the exhibition Frida Kahlo – Her Photos was resumed on May 21, 2021 with the opening of the show at the Saint Peter’s Abbey, in Ghent.

In 2019, the 241 photographs that make up this exhibition, selected from the more than 6,000 photographs that comprise the collection found at the emblematic Casa Azul in Mexico City, were seen by more than 55,000 visitors in Medellín, Colombia and in Chihuahua, Mexico.

For the following year, presentations were planned in Chicago, USA, during summer and in Prague, Czech Republic in the winter. However, the epidemiological crisis started in late 2019 forced the temporary closure of cultural institutions worldwide and, consequently, the cancellation of these openings.

Now, during the spring and summer of 2021, once the process of reopening of the cultural sector has begun, the photographs will be on display in Ghent until August 22nd. Then, it will be the turn of the Czech public to see the exhibition at the Stone Bell House in Prague, where it will be held between October 14th and January 16th, 2022.

In 2022, the show returns to North America for two presentations in the United States, first at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, where the new confirmed dates point to a presentation between April 1 and August 7, and then at the Museum of the Southwest, Midland, Texas, from August 25 to November 20.
